Channel 4 Grand Designs: Viewers are divided over whether the house is ‘beautiful’ or a ‘monstrosity’

Grand Designs viewers wondered if the latest project on the hit Channel 4 show was a boom or a bust.

Presenter Kevin McCloud helped architect Iain and his wife Jenny build a huge black minimalist house in Scotland.

The gigantic project also saw the couple transform the ownership of the property and connect it to the new building with a walled garden, but not everyone was impressed.

The episode saw the couple colliding with one obstacle after another as they discovered the roof timbers were rotten and faced a £ 50,000 overrun. BirminghamMail reports.

During the episode, Kevin ranted at the couple, “You have a responsibility with this place – and you have fun with it.”

Grand Designs viewers were divided over the house

The couple told him, “We have to make things worse first before we start putting everything back together.”

Kevin then fumed, “Well, you ransacked the garden and put a hell of a big black bump in it.”

Some viewers agreed, calling the construction a “monstrosity.”

Burbankhomes said: “The planning officer who passed this must be sacked! What a monstrosity! #Granddesigns”

Cheryl Dawe wrote: “This week’s construction makes me sad. For the loss of a beautiful walled garden and lack of conservation. Hope things change #GrandDesigns”

Macarena55 fumed: “Absolute cultural VANDALISM, which they did to this beautiful, walled, ancient garden. No sympathetic restoration whatsoever! These kind of arrogant townspeople should go back and build their monstrosities in the city! #Granddesigns”
