Consultants from the Department of State Growth conducted geotechnical surveys at Somerset’s River Cam as part of the preparation of a detailed design for a new bridge. The new bridge is part of the Cooee to Wynyard Road Modernization Program, which includes the Cam River Bridge Replacement Project and Murchison Road Signs. A spokesperson for the State Growth Department said the surveys would help with the final design. “The results of the surveys along with other considerations, including feedback from the community consultation held earlier this year, will inform the design,” the spokesperson said. “The department plans to issue a tender for the construction of the bridge later this year, with construction scheduled to begin in 2022.” IN OTHER NEWS: When the bridge is completed, it will be wider and taller and will incorporate a 1.8m wide footpath. The project will also provide a pedestrian path connecting the municipal reserves under the bridge. The existing bridge will remain operational until the new bridge is completed.
