NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Saturday reviewed Union Territories (UT) preparations to celebrate “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” is a central government initiative to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of Indian independence.
During the meeting, the chief secretaries and advisers to the administrators of the UT shared the details of the program developed around the theme of the struggle for Indian freedom while highlighting the culture, tradition and heritage of their Respective UTs.
Several innovative ideas were put forward by meeting attendees to make the event an iconic celebration, according to an official statement.
The union interior minister stressed the uniqueness of the events, the link with the freedom struggle and freedom fighters, ensuring the highest quality in the planning of events and stressed that all events must involve broad participation of the general public.
Bhalla urged UTs to give the programs concrete form for inclusion in MHA’s calendar of events, the statement said.
Earlier on August 19, the Home Secretary chaired a meeting with the directors general of the CAPF, the chairman of the Land Port Authority of India and heads of other organizations within the Home Office to discuss the MHA week-long program to celebrate “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.
